Hi, I’m Amy.
I'm a mom of two. My day job is remote, which means most mornings, no one would notice if I didn't get dressed at all.
I get dressed anyway. Every day, for drop-off, for grocery runs, for little league games — because it makes me feel like myself, and life's too short to spend it not feeling that way.
Other moms at drop-off started noticing. Complimenting it, then asking about it — how do you have the energy, where's that from, how do you make it look easy. Most mornings, they said, it was workout clothes that hadn't seen a workout, or some version of pajamas. No judgment there at all — some mornings call for exactly that. But underneath it, I kept hearing the same thing: it wasn’t that they didn't care. They just didn’t have the time, the headspace, or someone in their corner to make getting dressed easy again.
Long before any of that, I was the kid who could look at a runway photo and tell you the designer and the season. I subscribed to every fashion magazine I could get my hands on. And I was already altering my own clothes — ripping jeans on purpose, hemming pants, sewing on patches — years before “Alter Studio” existed.
That thread just kept going. Business school, then a move to New York with no job lined up, which meant unpaid internships in fashion PR and at a small design house — “paying your dues” if you will. Eventually I landed at a retail consulting firm working with Target, Kohl’s, and Bloomingdale’s, translating runway trends into what actually ends up on clothing racks in-store. It's the same skill: taking something that looks good on a runway (or nowadays, an influencer) and figuring out how it works for an actual person's actual life.
Then I moved back home to LA, spent a decade in tech startups, and now run a small toy business by myself. Fashion wasn’t part of the job description anymore, but it never left. What I missed was the creativity, the people aspect and the chance to actually help someone feel better about what they’re wearing and themselves.
That's Alter Studio. Not a closet overhaul or a makeover reel — just helping women find the formula to getting dressed and feeling confident every day.
